Bridgeport Unit Release Paths
Bridgeport Unit is part of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institutions Division. It is not a Wise County Sheriff jail annex. A prisoner can leave through full discharge, parole, mandatory supervision, or transfer to another TDCJ unit. Physical departure from Bridgeport therefore does not always end confinement or the sentence. The destination and final TDCJ status decide what happened.
A full discharge ends the active TDCJ sentence when all legal terms are met. Parole is supervised release authorized by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles before sentence discharge. Mandatory supervision is another statutory form of supervised release, subject to eligibility and Board rules. An internal transfer leaves the person in prison. Even after a favorable parole decision, a residence plan, required program, detainer, warrant, medical issue, or processing step may delay actual release.
| TDCJ event | Custody result | Record to check |
|---|---|---|
| Internal unit transfer | Still confined by TDCJ | Current unit in offender detail |
| Parole | Physically released but supervised | TDCJ history and Parole Division record |
| Mandatory supervision | Physically released under state supervision | Final status and supervision record |
| Full discharge | State confinement and active supervision end | Historical release and discharge record |
Confirm Bridgeport Unit Release
The TDCJ Inmate Information Search is the first check before release. It accepts a seven-digit TDCJ number or SID, and it also permits a name search with gender or race fields to separate possible matches. Open the detail record. Read the current unit, offense and county, maximum sentence date, projected release date, and parole-review information by their exact labels.
The search has a decisive limit. It includes people currently incarcerated in TDCJ, and its information is updated on working days while remaining at least 24 hours old. Former prisoners generally do not remain as permanent online “released” results. A vanished result can reflect release, but it can also follow a scope change, correction, or query problem. Historical TDCJ records are needed for the actual release type and date.
- Search by TDCJ number or SID when known. Those identifiers reduce errors between people with similar names.
- Without a number, enter the exact last name and at least a first initial. Use other public form fields only to distinguish candidates.
- Open the detail link and record the current unit, projected date, maximum sentence date, and parole information with the access date.
- If a scheduled release appears, note both the scheduled date and scheduled location. Treat them as changeable, not final proof.
- After the result leaves the current-only search, request TDCJ incarceration history, actual release date, release type, discharge date, and release location.
Bridgeport Unit Release Dates
Projected release, parole eligibility, maximum sentence, scheduled release, and actual release are not interchangeable. The projected date is TDCJ's working calculation for release if the prisoner is not paroled sooner. A parole eligibility date only marks when review may be allowed under the governing rules. The maximum sentence date marks the end point calculated from the sentence, subject to lawful changes. None alone proves the person walked out.
TDCJ Classification and Records calculates time and facilitates releases. Texas good-conduct time affects parole or mandatory-supervision eligibility under Government Code Chapter 498; it does not simply cut down the judicial sentence. Offense, offense date, sentence structure, time class, Board action, detainers, forfeitures, and required programs can all matter. Texas has no general rule that every prisoner must serve a fixed 85 percent of the sentence.
- Projected release date
- TDCJ's current estimate under the record and rules then in effect.
- Parole eligibility date
- The point at which parole review may be possible, not a release grant.
- Scheduled release
- A planned date and location that can still change before processing ends.
- Discharge
- The end of the active sentence or supervision, distinct from physical release on parole.
For a calculation question, contact Classification and Records at 936-437-6231 or classify@tdcj.texas.gov. That office handles state-prison time issues. It does not calculate a Wise County jail out-book date.
Bridgeport Unit Release Records
For quick general information, TDCJ accepts an email to pia@tdcj.texas.gov with the full name and TDCJ number. If the number is unknown, include a date of birth or approximate age and county of conviction. That channel can provide identifying and incarceration information, but TDCJ says photographs are not supplied through the general inquiry.
Use the TDCJ Public Information Act request route for historical release or discharge documents and an identification photograph. Identify the person and ask for incarceration history, actual release date, release type, discharge date if different, release unit or location, parole or mandatory-supervision status, and the TDCJ identification photograph. Texas cost rules apply, and charges depend on the records and medium requested.
The official historical-request screenshot below matches Bridgeport Unit's state-prison record trail. It shows why the TDCJ records channel, not the county clerk or Sheriff roster, is the durable route after a former prisoner disappears from the current-only locator.
A focused request is easier to locate and price. Ask for electronic copies and a written estimate if cost is a concern. Some juvenile, medical, victim, security, sealed, or confidential parole-file details may be withheld or redacted, but public fields can still be requested.

Classification and Records has a separate role. Its mailing address is PO Box 99, Huntsville, TX 77342-0099, and its fax is 936-437-6276. Contact that office for the state time calculation or a question about how a displayed date was derived. Use Public Information for copies of retained documents. Keeping those channels distinct avoids asking the unit switchboard to reconstruct a sentence or asking the records program to calculate time. If an actual release field appears wrong, identify the source record, provide the order or other proof that supports a correction, and request the correction process in writing.
Bridgeport Unit Parole Records
A Bridgeport prisoner released on parole or mandatory supervision remains under TDCJ Parole Division authority. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles makes release decisions, while the Parole Division carries out supervision. A Board approval does not establish the date of physical release. TDCJ may still need an approved plan, a reporting location, program completion, and final processing.
The TDCJ county assignment directory maps Wise County to the Mineral Wells District Parole Office in Region II, but the approved release plan can place a person in another county or district. That is why the Bridgeport gate is not a reliable clue to where the person goes next. The supervising office and final TDCJ record form the stronger trail. Releasable information may include the assigned office, supervision status, and release or discharge dates, subject to Government Code section 508.313 and policy limits.

Probation is different. Texas calls it community supervision, and a court imposes it instead of the parole system. Wise County CSCD in Decatur handles local probation. It should not be used to verify a TDCJ parole release.
Bridgeport Unit Release Checks
Texas VINE/VINELink can add custody-change notifications when the participating agency supplies the record. It is useful for an alert, but it is not the judgment or a complete historical archive. Preserve the result or alert and compare it with TDCJ's final status and records. Do not rely on VINE alone for an urgent or final conclusion.
The court record can explain the sentence and county of conviction. It does not replace TDCJ's release computation. Likewise, the Wise County Odyssey portal applies to county jail and court activity; it does not track the Bridgeport prison population. The Wise County release search overview separates county jail, TDCJ, federal, and immigration paths when a person has moved through more than one system.
Note: A present Bridgeport Unit result shows current TDCJ confinement at the source's snapshot, while a missing result requires historical confirmation.
Bridgeport Unit Prison Profile
The official TDCJ Bridgeport Unit directory identifies the facility at 4000 North Tenth Street in Bridgeport. It is a male Correctional Institutions Division prison with G1 and G2 custody levels. The listed capacity is 520, and the unit was established in August 1989. Its public telephone is 940-683-3010.
The unit lists a CHANGES/Pre-Release program. Participation may support preparation, yet it does not prove parole approval or fix a release date. Public status must still come from TDCJ records. The official directory image below ties the facility profile to the correct state source.
The official Bridgeport Unit directory image below confirms the unit identity and public contact path.
Bridgeport has no county jail release sheet. Questions about the unit itself go to the facility, time calculations go to Classification and Records, supervision goes to the assigned Parole Division office, and historical release documents go to TDCJ Public Information.
