Wise Detention Release Paths
Wise County Detention Center is the county's main jail. It holds people brought in by the Sheriff, city police, warrant arrests, court commitments, and other agencies. Leaving this jail can mean two very different things. A person may return to the community after a surety or cash bond, a personal bond, dismissal, acquittal, time served, completion of a county term, probation order, or another court directive. The jail's out-book event and release code are the key facts.
Other departures continue confinement. Those include commitment to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, an out-of-county warrant transfer, delivery to the U.S. Marshals Service or ICE, extradition, or movement caused by another hold. Roster absence alone cannot distinguish these paths. The historical jail entry should identify the movement date, type, and receiving agency. When that detail is unclear, request the booking and movement record from the Sheriff.
| Departure | What it means | Best confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or court release | The person may return to the community if no other hold remains. | Out-book event, bond record, and court order |
| Time served or term complete | The county sentence or credited term has ended. | Release record and signed judgment |
| TDCJ commitment | The person left the county jail but remains in state custody. | County movement record, then TDCJ search |
| Other agency transfer | Another county, USMS, or ICE may now hold the person. | Receiving-agency entry and movement record |
Confirm Wise Detention Releases
The official Wise County Odyssey Public Access portal separates Jail Records, Jail Bond Records, criminal cases, court calendars, and incident records. Start with Jail Records for the named booking. Compare it with the current roster, but treat the roster as a present-custody snapshot. The local page labeled “Last 2 Days” lists recent admissions, not releases. Neither that page nor the roster is a historical release archive.
A bond entry explains possible legal authority to leave. It does not prove that all holds cleared or that the person walked out. The court file adds the judgment, dismissal, bond order, sentence, jail credit, or probation order. Texas VINE can corroborate a custody-status change, yet its data come from participating agencies and do not replace the Sheriff's administrative event. The full named-person workflow is also available through the Wise County released inmate search.
- Search Odyssey Jail Records with the full name and the most specific identifiers available. Note the booking number, query date, and exact result.
- Check the current roster timestamp. A present hit supports custody only at that snapshot, while a missing name remains ambiguous.
- Open Jail Bond Records and the linked criminal case. Compare the bond or order with any other charges, warrants, or holds.
- Check Texas VINE/VINELink for a matching agency record and custody change.
- Request the release and movement record if the public results omit an out-book date, release type, or destination.
Wise Detention Release Records
The Wise County Sheriff Open Records channel accepts written requests by email, mail, in person, and through its online form. Use the full name, date of birth if known, booking or SO number, and an approximate booking date. Ask for the booking and release sheet, book-in and out-book times, release or disposition code, transfer destination, bond-posting entry, and releasable hold information. Electronic copies and a cost estimate can keep the request focused.
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 provides the Public Information Act framework. It requires a request to identify existing records with reasonable clarity, but it does not make the agency answer research questions or create a new report. Wise County publishes no fixed local fee for a release sheet. Copy, labor, medium, redaction, and other authorized costs depend on the actual request. The familiar ten-business-day rule is tied to agency duties, including a request for an Attorney General ruling, and is not a promise of completed production in ten days.

For a misdemeanor case, the Wise County Clerk is the local record route. Felony cases belong with the District Clerk. A signed court document can explain why release was authorized, but it may not state the exact moment another hold cleared. Pair it with the jail movement record.
Holds Change Wise Releases
Wise County's current roster structure shows that outside warrants, parole matters, and immigration-type holds can exist beside local charges. That makes a cleared local bond only one step. Another authority may take custody once the Wise County matter permits movement. The result should be described as a transfer, not a community release, when the receiving agency is supported by the record.
Follow the destination into the correct system. A TDCJ commitment belongs in the statewide offender search. A sentenced federal prisoner may appear in the BOP locator, while a federal pretrial defendant may require the federal docket or USMS contact because the BOP system is not comprehensive for pretrial custody. ICE maintains a separate detainee locator. A no-result from any one system is not a release certificate.
- Hold or detainer
- A request or legal basis for another authority to keep or receive custody.
- Transfer
- A move from one custodian to another without a return to the community.
- Out-book
- The jail's administrative event recording departure from its custody.
- Community supervision
- Texas probation ordered by a court, distinct from state parole.
Note: Clearing one Wise County charge does not clear every warrant, commitment, or detainer shown for the same booking.
Wise Release Property Clues
The Sheriff's Property & Money Release rules document a useful local difference. An ordinary release returns clothes and shoes, sends remaining property to the lobby, and provides remaining account funds by debit card. A transfer uses a property-release form that names someone to collect personal belongings, while funds move with the prisoner. The designated property must be collected within 60 days or it may be destroyed.
Property pickup is only a clue. It does not establish that the person is free from all custody. A family member may receive property precisely because the person transferred to another facility. For that reason, a precise record request should seek the movement event, date and time, type, and receiving agency. The county publishes no official release time, weekend schedule, public waiting zone, or transport arrangement, so those details should not be inferred.
Wise Release Court Records
Jail custody, a release instrument, and the case outcome are separate events in Wise County. Odyssey's layout reflects that fact. Jail Records show the booking trail, Jail Bond Records show bond activity, and the criminal case provides docket events and the final disposition. Read them in time order. “Disposed” means the court reached a disposition; it does not prove that the person left every form of custody at that same moment.
The Wise County District Clerk maintains district and felony records. The matched official screenshot below shows this resilient court-record route when an online case page does not supply the needed detail.
The clerk record helps explain the legal basis for release or transfer, while the Sheriff record supplies the jail's actual movement. Use both when dates or descriptions conflict.
Match records with the cause number whenever it appears. A jail entry can list a charge and bond, while the court chronology later shows a plea, judgment, sentence, jail-credit finding, dismissal, probation order, capias, or revocation. A capias is a court order directing that a person be taken into custody. A revocation can end probation and lead back to confinement. These events explain changes in legal authority, but the out-book time still comes from the jail trail. If Odyssey detail is unavailable, use the clerk division tied to the case level and ask the Sheriff for the named booking's movement record.
Wise Detention Facility Profile
The Wise County Sheriff's Office operates the detention center at 200 Rook Ramsey Drive in Decatur. Its public detention number is 940-627-5971. The official account information identifies facility number 24080 and notes that staff can provide a booking number. That number is the best bridge among the current roster, Odyssey jail record, VINE entry, written request, and court case.
The official current PDF is a Main Jail census. It can show identity, confinement, charge, bond, and roster-run facts, but it is not a booking-photo or release product. No official release-count series, average length of stay, or guaranteed roster refresh schedule was found. A dated Texas Commission on Jail Standards notice reported issues observed in June 2026, but that historical inspection notice does not prove current conditions or describe release practice.
